IR Emitter Response
Halogen lamps (T3, Ruby T3,
and Rapido) have the ability to turn on and off almost
instantly. When power is applied, the resulting heat occurs very rapidly.
Halogen lamps have a response time of less than three seconds. Compare this to
other emitters with response time of minutes and even hours. Quartz
halogen lamps have a similar cool down curve.

The instant on/off feature yields a potential safety benefit to
operators and to the product. In continuous applications (web, extrusion,
conveyor), conventional hot wall heaters may burn the product in the event of a
line stoppage. This is due to the high heat capacity and slow response. In some
applications, it is necessary to physically move the heaters out of the way
after a line stoppage. Quartz halogen systems can be controlled to not
burn the product in a line shut down situation. Maintenance can also begin
within minutes (versus hours) in this system due to the rapid cool down.
